[ADXA] I'm clueless on this one - callsign/P (So what else is new?)

Hi George, Under certain conditions that extra 30 seconds can cost you a contact especially on six meters. That's why in WSJT-X will allow you to double click TX1 allowing you to bypass TX1.Last night nearly every JA operator calling me was using TX2. I would have lost a lot of the European contacts as well by doing the full sequence. However it's up to the individual operator. Also when working in a pile up like last night 30 seconds on every contact will cause some not to get into the log that could have.If your location is set correctly in TQSL with parameters such as grade square, County, and State, many logging programs will do a correction when being synced to LOTW.The problem is many of the station locations in TQSL are not setup correctly or not being used. Like you said what is the point. If you're going to do this it needs to be accurate information.Seems like it's always more work than it needs to be.Still I see many stations that are confirmed on LOTW without a state, grid square, or County being listed. I don't think they understand how to set up their station location under TQSL.73 JaySent from my Galaxy

On 6m, I typically ignore stations that call me on FT8 using TX2 first (signal report) as I don't know what GS they are in and if they are not at home, when uploaded to HRD LB, it will grab their QRZ GS (typically home QTH) and not where they might be operating from. Of course, they might be new to the hobby, as many are, but still there are a few "norms" that seem logical. Saving 30s is not that big of a deal to get it right. And if they are in a rare one and don't realize it, it only makes matters worse. 73'sGeorge - WB5JJJ4On Fri, Jul 16, 2021 at 11:45 AM <sbranyan at cox.net> wrote:PS. That is weird, George, that they don't have their grid filled in, and that it is a regional commonality. Guess that is why a lot of DX stations will not work stations with no grid in their call on digital.

I'm well aware that /P is "usually" portable, but they don't state their Grid at all on FT8/FT4, so what's the point?
When you go to their /P QRZ page, it directs you to their main call. And there they have no mention of where they are doing /P. I also muted N0LL/P since he's not LoTW and haven't worked him.
If the Canadian Prez doesn't know, then it must be a bigger secret than his pay grade is privy to as well. Thanks Joel for asking. Timing is everything.

At the moment I’m sitting with the President of Radio Amateurs of Canada and IARU President Tim Ellam who is VE6SH. I asked them, specifically with respect to the Canadian stations, and they have no clue other than to note a “Portable” operation away from one’s “home grid” and the /P is just to indicate they are operating away from their home grid.
Other than that, we have no clue!!!

They are portable, usually an op in a scarce grid, not his own. N0LL/P for example. On now from rare grid.

What are all the FT8 calls with /P on them, mostly Canadian, but a few US? None of them refer to a new grid square, at least for me, if they even show one. It might be some sort of secret contest, but I can't find any information at all. When I look them up on QRZ, it refers me to their main page with no mention of why the /P.
