[ADXA] A contest club? Thoughts?

Yes, there is a club competition for ARRL DX. Three categories, large, medium, and small. Secretary submits a club roster, members check the box for log submission.Ant score is welcome, it all adds to the club score.
Yes, DX clubs, such as Arizona DX, Northern Cal DX, etc, submit scores. Club scores are listed somewhere, although I’ve never agreed with current ARRL policy of not listing all contest scores. They say space in QST is too valuable for score listings. I say it’s a membership journal, and member’s activities should be shown, I say it’s more important than reprinting pages of back issues of QST.

If I'm not correct with what I'm about to say regarding a club listing, Bill Kennamer can correct me, but let's be clear about why the club "can" be listed. In some contests there is a club competition so the logs/scores submitted from individual stations, within certain geographical parameters, can add to and support a club score.
The ARRL DX contests do not have a club competition so whether you enter "ADXA" as the club or not has absolutely zero impact on your log or anyone else's log submission/score in this contest. I don't even believe the club name is listed in any of the results for this specific contest. What it does, in simple terms, is document the fact that we are active regardless of how many contacts one station made. Also, for those who post their score on the 3830 claimed scoreboard most folks indicate a club. This is nothing more than a brag sheet on the site but hey, what's wrong with showing support for your group? How do you think PVRC, YCCC and others became so well known beyond their local area?
Bill SJ, for me personally there is no difference between a DX'er and a contester! When I'm asked if I'm a contester I say "yes!". The response is usually "I thought you were a DX'er?" to which I respond "Yes!". I fail to see any difference whatsoever. I'm a ham, period!
So, here's the bottom line......GET IN THERE AND WORK 'EM! What really gets me all excited is everyone in ADXA who does get on during a DX contest and works some stations, regardless of how many you work, and it also provides a good opportunity to try something like Dennis did....Hey, he's working on his QRP DXCC !!!!!!

Hey, Bill; Joel, I think that is it – we just submit ADXA with no reference to "contest club" – we are DXer's first and contesters, second.... 😊

I didn't do this one seriously, but submitted as ADXA. That's a choice for log submission now.

Well, it was a "DX" contest!!!!!!!!
I don't know Bill. The listing has been discussed here before but don't recall the specifics. From my perspective its splitting hairs. ADXA promotes DX but also promotes good technical knowledge to build an excellent station (regardless of size), operator improvement and ethics. The difference between DX'ers and contesters is minimal, if any at all. When we had W3LPL as our featured guest at our 2018 annual conference I was asked by one person why were we having a "contester" as our featured guest. Well, let's see, Frank has built one of the top DX contest stations in the world, he is subject matter expert on propagation, antennas and ethical operating. Wow, isn't that everything a DX'er wants? Besides, he is on the DXCC Honor Roll !!!!!
So, drawing a line in the sand between DX'ers and contesters serves no purpose but having our contest logs identify "ADXA" as the club, especially for a DX contest, simply promotes ADXA and shows the world we're a group of first class operators and we are active on the air.....even if it is with 700 mW!
I also noted "ADXA" for my log submission. For those who plan to submit a log please do so as well. In addition, if you have already submitted a log and did not indicate ADXA please resubmit it (you can do that before the deadline) and indicate ADXA as the club.

A thought – I just submitted my log and under club, I put "ADXA". I don't think I have heard of any formal addition, but if we did have a club, I would certainly submit my score. So, are we a contest club as well as a DXA? ADXA Contest Club? A supplemental club to our main purpose?

Subject: Re: [ADXA] 9 volts, 24 countries
Wow that's amazing Dennis!!!!
The one thing I really like about this contest is the DX station sends their power level. I worked a horde of 5 watt stations, mostly all JA's. In the past when I would work single band 80 and I would work one 5 watt DL station it was almost like an alarm was sounded within the Bavarian QRP club over there and they all line up for a Q. Unfortunately, several of them were a real strain to copy. This weekend I had to shake my head several times when I would work a very copyable 5 watt station then I would struggle with the next station that would send "KW"!!!! Says a lot about a good antenna!!!
Anyway your run this weekend is quite impressive!

I decided to try another "9 volt battery" effort in the ARRL CW DX contest with my little red rig - the LNR MTR-4b v2. I grabbed a 9V battery off the desk that had been used for something else but measured a bit over 9 volts. I operated about 2 hours. Power at the beginning was 1.2 watts and by the end, voltage was 7.7 and power output was 700 milliwatts. I stayed mainly on 20 meters and found that many DX stations answered me on the first call. Some required several calls and a very few couldn't copy me at all. I was surprised that it worked so well since I was down an average of 30 db from a kw station.
I worked 50 stations, 47 on 20 meters, and 3 on 40. I had 23 multipliers on 20 meters and 3 on 40. I think one on 40 was not duplicated on 20, so that was actually 24 countries worked and that didn't count the US or Canada.
The little MTR-4b v2 is an amazing rig. With 12 volts, it will output 5 watts, CW only. It has a built-in voltmeter, SWR meter, and wattmeter. It's not like operating a "big rig" but it is just a little bigger than a pack of cards. I'll be taking it out to the park when the weather gets a little better.

Dennis
