[ADXA] A contest club? Thoughts?

Hey, Bill; Joel, I think that is it – we just submit ADXA with no reference to “contest club” – we are DXer’s first and contesters, second…. 😊

I don't know Bill. The listing has been discussed here before but don't recall the specifics. From my perspective its splitting hairs. ADXA promotes DX but also promotes good technical knowledge to build an excellent station (regardless of size), operator improvement and ethics. The difference between DX'ers and contesters is minimal, if any at all. When we had W3LPL as our featured guest at our 2018 annual conference I was asked by one person why were we having a "contester" as our featured guest. Well, let's see, Frank has built one of the top DX contest stations in the world, he is subject matter expert on propagation, antennas and ethical operating. Wow, isn't that everything a DX'er wants? Besides, he is on the DXCC Honor Roll !!!!!

So, drawing a line in the sand between DX'ers and contesters serves no purpose but having our contest logs identify "ADXA" as the club, especially for a DX contest, simply promotes ADXA and shows the world we're a group of first class operators and we are active on the air.....even if it is with 700 mW!

I also noted "ADXA" for my log submission. For those who plan to submit a log please do so as well. In addition, if you have already submitted a log and did not indicate ADXA please resubmit it (you can do that before the deadline) and indicate ADXA as the club.

The one thing I really like about this contest is the DX station sends their power level. I worked a horde of 5 watt stations, mostly all JA's. In the past when I would work single band 80 and I would work one 5 watt DL station it was almost like an alarm was sounded within the Bavarian QRP club over there and they all line up for a Q. Unfortunately, several of them were a real strain to copy. This weekend I had to shake my head several times when I would work a very copyable 5 watt station then I would struggle with the next station that would send "KW"!!!! Says a lot about a good antenna!!!

Anyway your run this weekend is quite impressive!

The little MTR-4b v2 is an amazing rig.  With 12 volts, it will output 5 watts, CW only.  It has a built-in voltmeter, SWR meter, and wattmeter.  It's not like operating a "big rig" but it is just a little bigger than a pack of cards.  I'll be taking it out to the park when the weather gets a little better.
