Jay…
You had mentioned how rapid the FT8 guys were working a ‘new one’, sometimes several in a week and some dozens in a day after getting on FT8. Tweaked my curiosity of how fast I got my first 100 on RTTY. Looks like both modes were quick to work 100!
My first RTTY was on October16, 2011 and worked SV7CFC on 24mc. My #100 was worked just 6 weeks later, working FG5LA on 14mc on Dec. 3rd. So about 6 weeks to get to #100, but the first 50 was very quick, in just 2 short weeks with ZP9EH on 28mc on Nov. 2nd.. I have no deletions since I had not worked the 2 PJ entities that later became 4 new ones on 10-10-2010. Had not worked the 4J1MVI other deletion in Feb 2012. So what I have worked are all current countries with no deletions. I know MANY of the FT8 guys are happy to have ALL their new countries as current with no deletions. That’s good. I will bet a few of the ADXA guys worked their first 100 on FT4/8 modes within 6 weeks like I did on RTTY.
Thank goodness, signals were STRONG in late 2011 thru 2012, but it took til late 2012 to get to #200. Slow stuff for next 6 years and very slow after that with the FT4/8 new modes taking up a big % of QSOs from major DXpeditions. Sure stimulates DX chasing, as you said.
Not much on the bands today. I have not worked a new RTTY since Feb 2020, VP8 South Orkney. I will listen hard during the next RTTY contest. 😊 Otherwise I just rely on looking for spots on DX Summit or by the ADXA guys.. My comment for the day. HI
