The other night I picked up CE0YHF/3 from Easter Island on 40m FT8.
Interesting callsign. Are there call sign regions on Easter Island?
There seem to be multiple callsigns for Easter Island pointing back to
CE0YHO (Jose Barrera) according EQSL.
Anyway, this afternoon, just a while ago, I saw CE0YHO working FT8 on 15m. I
tried to catch him. He would work one call and then change frequency. He
might have been returning calls to him. Anyway, I don't if the conditions
prompted this frequent change, or if he had restless frequency syndrome
(RFS), hihi.
So I tried a trick that worked for me before in such cases. I put both TX
and RX on my same frequency, unticked the TX even/1st box, and called him to
see if he would come to me. Indeed, he did after about ten call cycles. Our
exchange took two minutes with long waits between comeback. His signal
strength varied from -03 to +10. So I suspect there was a lot of QSB. But he
stuck with me, and we completed the call.
I checked radar (see attached image), and there seems to be some weather in
his area.
Anyway, let me know if any of you have had success with this approach to
calling or have other useful tips for such occasions .
