As others have posted on various sites, it appears that some think that
7Q7RU is not sending RR73 as expected. Overall, I have seen him do this
many times, but having said that ... I worked him on 20m FT8 the other day
just bang, bang and .... nothing. He was gone for several cycles, so I
figured he just did a quick fade (hopefully). Then he was back working
other folks. I logged him just in case, as I always do with any contact
that "might" be completed.
I eagerly awaited his update to ClubLog and this morning, it was updated
and I held my breath as I clicked to see the QSL display. Low and behold,
there I was. Relief is just a few months away when he uploads to LoTW.
I actually tried to work him on 20m SSB yesterday. For the FIRST time I
actually heard his Russian voice calling CQ. He was so very weak, but I
thought why not try. I have yet to make contact on SSB or even hear him on
CW. So, I'll take the fish in the barrel contact on FT8.
Unlike Rick, Joel and so many others, I have just a barefoot IC7610 and use
either a Mosley on 20m-10m, M2 on 6m or EFHW wires for everything else. No
massive antenna farms or 2KW amps here. So I get what I can get and move
one.
As I write this, he's on 17m F/H (18.095) and of course, I'm trying him yet
again. 17m for me is a pretty solid band to the South Pacific.
