The reason it took you 3 calls Joel is that you were using W5ZN/5?! Right? 😁

I still need VU4 but do have Laccadives VU7 confirmed from “way back” on 80m. No good 80m antennas since 1995, so no chance for real long distance, rare stuff like that in past 25 years unless on schedule or being lucky...

I need VU4 and 7 on 160m but will never happen. My good towers and antennas days have gone by forever. I have to call and call and call now, like the 7Q last night on 40m when Rick got him on MY frequency and I got him about 10 minutes later! Had to squeeze in thru the East Coast Guys.

Looking back to the 2015 7QAA operation, I only missed them on RTTY on 80, 30 and 10m and SSB on 40 I think but no 160m worked. That group was darn active, think I was just behind K5RK on Zone 4 band/mode QSOs with 18 or so. Maybe I can get to Rick’s or your QTH Joel and work em on 160 then 80 SSB using K5YY/5! 😏 😎 🙄 I also did not realize UR had gotten on FT8 but he should have been more than +0, even with QRP from his QTH. Maybe he was portable somewhere but not using /5 or ????????????? 😊 … NBD
San … now back to DX Summit for a while then my 2 hour afternoon nap.

As bad (really bad) as I hate to confess this, since "I was barefoot" is his favorite line (other than "I don't need it"), we were sitting in his shack one night enjoying a toddy or two and not paying any attention to the radio. All of a sudden we saw a VU4 spot! Rick hit the amp and while it was still warming up he said "We've gotta call NOW!" He did.....BAREFOOT, and the VU4 came right back to him first call. He handed the mic to me and said you call him. I did, and I worked him "barefoot" on Rick's radio (I didn't need it!) but it took me three calls.
Like I said, I REALLY hate to have to confess that I actually did see him work a rare, juicy DX station with one call barefoot. I've never wanted to tell that story publicly but hell I need to get it out there and live the rest of my life with a clear head!
No, we were not drunk!  :-))

Hi Joel,
I was telling John earlier, that the other day I had my small QRP rig out with only a small whip antenna chasing down or trying to chase down some interference on 80m.  Then I hear this loud SSB signal K5 United Radio.  It was the only thing I saw on the bandscope on the Icom 705!!  He was working some pretty good DX on 80m and it wasn't during the grayline

HE is everywhere!!
