Thanks, Joel, for posting that sad news. I had the pleasure of visiting
John with Ghis, ON5NT, at his home in Belgium back in 1991 or 92 when
I was stationed in Brussels. It was great to see his legendary set-up for
low-band DXing. But what I remember most (and I'm not sure if this is
totally accurate!) was seeing his HF beams atop a huge 4-legged tower.
It was rotated with some type of heavy truck transmission (?). Wish I
had taken notes... all pictures I might have taken are in storage. Anyway,
it was a very interesting afternoon. I also visited with him a couple of
times
at Dayton.  Many Q's over the years while I was /mobile as he also worked
all the U.S. Counties for the CQ USA-CA Award. RIP Rick AI5P
