TU Pat for the update. Yes, my last update was almost a year ago, so an entire year and only 18 scattered over 7 bands. I had not done my NCDXC updates in a year either, so need to get that done soon. Hope our ADXA members are having the time to chase some bands now, especially 1.8-21mc ..
24 and 28mc scarcely open with a few solar K elevation changes suddenly with good crossovers. I am off 6m completely now but without F2 in the past 18 years or so, no new one to add to my 6m DXCC endorsement. I was not able to get a new one on the rare 4 hop E skip 7000-8000km to Europe (or 3 LONG E skips to about 6600km). No long F2 expected for this cycle 25 upswing either.

So, I am slowly cutting some long time activities out here. Stopped 144, 432 and 222 a few years ago with some very good grid square totals and VUCC endorsements; just no good E openings, extended tropo or hams into 4-5 meteor scatter seasonal activities like in the 80s thru the mid 2000s. Staying up all night for 8-10 30 minute meteor scatter skeds was fun… I think!! Hi At least the memories are worth reflecting on, as to what we did way back then.

K5UR tried 2m in the mid 80s and almost gave up when nothing showed up further out than Memphis, Dallas, St. Louis or Tulsa for a few weeks, and listening was so boring. THEN one day, BINGO a tropo opening to the east coast, many new states and grids and Rick got hooked!! Glad he stayed around. He found time to explore many VHF and UHF bands and zoomed past everyone. All this VHF activity was brought about by the LOW SS numbers like now, and it prompted me to write an article published in QST’s December 85 issue about The Doctors Cure for the Low Sunspot Blues. Check it out if you have QSTs that old! Time flies by so quickly … sometimes. So, VHF, UHF, HF, VLF…. It’s all ham radio and great stuff.

73 for now.

Subject: [ADXA] Updated Member Standings from K5YY

The discussion about the Desoto Challenge triggered San, K5YY’s memory bank.  He reports that he is now at 2906 on his quest.  San’s increase came from six new ones on 40M, three on 80M and two each on four bands and one on 10M.  You are in rare air San!

73,
Pat, W5VY
