[ADXA] Good job Earl.. my take on what's happened and the future of our great ham radio hobby . . .

RRR Earl..
Still a great total for the short time FT8 took over the 60m band. Mainly it is popular due to the low power allowed in most EU countries of 15 watts ERP on their “VFO” band of 15 KC and the sub-audible ranges not copied on narrow CW until at least – 5dB. Does amaze me the -22 to -5 dB signals that can be software copied and the FUN I have had working a few with the help and instructions of a local ham on FT8.

Just do not want to start a new list of FT8 countries worked which would not be a new one for me. All of my worked countries on 60m are SSB and CW from July 2003 and I have confirmed 171 at this point. It does bother me to think if I did do FT8 on 60m I could be closer to 190 or so. I hate making skeds with the DXpeds , some of whom have assisted me with CW schedules, in and out quickly, then they go back to FT8. HI I appreciate them so much but tired of emailing and standing by for a quick sked reply or something set up for the next day, etc..
Overall, FT8 is stimulating in many ways and fun what little I have done, and really pretty easy with proper help and setup. My setup here would have to be changed so much to make it constantly available to me. Moving rigs, setting up a new screen monitor and software parameters, putting the PC close to rigs or vice versa, is a chore for me if you could see my shack. Current PC is 6-22 feet from my 3 setups. Coax runs for many bands and using a rig just for FT8 near the PC is something I thought about. Just not that interested and if I get clobbered on the 60m DX ladder, so be it. I have had fun since 2003 for sure. HI HI
Good to have seen you too. Joel and Rick did a good job with discussions of our future in ham radio at the meeting. I’ve had fun for 63 years and before that an SWL at age 10-13 starting in Memphis TN with a Hallicrafters S38A… mainly AM. SSB was unknown!! LOL
Looking forward for our ADXA being constructive in the next 2-3 years. It is needed to survive in our radio hobby, DXing or not..
San

Hi San,

Good to see you in Russellville. I really had little interest in 60m earlier.
Then I got fired up with FT8 and it seemed 60m was alive with FT8.

Now that's about all you hear there. So to answer your question 94 of the
countries on 60m are FT8. :-)))

I do have a few others worked (SSB - CW) there but not confirmed.

Earl N5ZM..

PS. 228 confirmed now with FT8.
