The late 50s when I started ham radio with KN5QHS for only 2-3 months and then K5QHS, as it turned out was the highest 11 year peak timeframe in more than a century I think I read. Maybe someone can verify that. Also very good MUFs but somewhat lower 11 years later when I got out of medical school and went to Swan Island. 10m booming then too, on and off during the summer.

I vividly remember many QSOs with a ham in ZS6 in the late 60s and his was SO strong that I could hear the raindrops on his tin roof during our QSOs or hear his wife calling from outside. Later in the late 70s I worked him again a couple of times at the upswing of another cycle but not like before. Did work him on 160m with a special antenna in 1977 I had designed and he wrote an article in the ZS bulletin that I was the strongest signal he had ever heard on 160. Boy, I was pumped up. Wish I had kept that article. Every cycle different and some great things to remember during each one..

Congrats again EJ! Get them now while you can, as I see the predictions are that this cycle 25 will have lower MUFs than the last. Appears the upswing will be shorter. Love our hobby.

I remember in early 2000’s I’d watch MUF and when it popped up above 50 Mhz then 6 sounded like 10 meters.

San that late 50’s peak must have been something

I’d call it a long, slow grinds with periods of terror when the balloon went up and one wasn’t at home.  F2 totally different animal than E.  Without FT8, lots less DX on E.

Thanks all.   6M was a difficult DXCC.  We haven’t had any decent F2 since the early 2000’s.  Yes I had to finish it with FT8- no option even when the band is good on multi hop E because everybody is on FT8!
Congrats Steve -  hopefully TF3ML will come through quickly!
