[ADXA] On line log system for the VP8 is sluggish

Good story Jonathan! One to remember. You were nice to wait and not call until you heard him clearly after the first doubtful Q… Many times with the QSB and QRM and QRN you may not copy the final RR or 73 from the DXped operator and I am often left wondering a bit too… But if I hear my call initially but do not get a QRMed 73 or TU from the guy, I feel they are OK or they would call me again with a ‘confirmation’ statement.

Each operator on DXpeds has their own way of doing their QSOs. Believe me, they vary a lot on how refined they are and accurate and helpful when needed. The worst thing is when they say “you’re in the log, QRZ” and you never have called them or had a very skimpy uncompleted QSO, so you call again. In those cases we are out of luck and have to explain to the pilot or log manager after the trip. You sure can’t log a QSO in your files. Tough situation. Ain’t DXing fun? Call for an hour and then be told you’re in the log.. When? What do I put down? Keep a small notebook I guess, with time and date of the “in the log comment” and hope the manager understands. But you don’t wanna do that for 4-5 QSOs!! HI HI

I heard N5ZM work VP8PJ @ 7 AM this morning on 40 CW. I could not even hear them. But I sure did hear Earl!

I thought I worked them on 14.185 this afternoon, but it was Weak copy. I wasn't sure If I was in their log or not. So I broke my rule about never Duping,
I worked him  again when I could hear him clearly. He didn't say anything about "we already worked on this band", so Maybe i made the right decision.

According to my tag-team DXing buddy WB5FLA, The deal with not uploading logs is the weather will not allow them to get from their camp to the boat. Evidently they only have internet access on the boat.
Which, is pretty much the same thing San already said.

Anyway, i'm trying my dangdest with what what I have to work with to work them a few times on a few bands

p.s. I CANT leave this without ONE brag.
I had been listening for the guy for a while to get loud enough for a sure contact. When my turn came he said " N5QJ. WOW!  Nice signal'. It was the first "nice signal" I heard all afternoon. I'll take that.

No log updates since our noontime 2 days ago. Website says will have log updates few times a day. They are using Sat phones on the boat but guess a bit of a chore getting the rig data thumbdrives to the boat more than once every 3-4 days.
Some guys griping about a lot of dupes. Glad I got my ATNO RTTY 3 days ago. I only call if pileups are slowed down a bit .. They are there another 8 days, so everyone should get a good # of band modes. No more So. Orkney DXped for another several years. Boat costs keep soaring. Bouvet is a different matter!! Hi
