Looks like it wasn't me operating then, E.J. Was either Tim or someone
else. My last (thankfully) trip there was in August on 1989!

> Yep that's the card. I need to look back to see if I was the op them. It was around that time that my "tour of duty" with the Taiwan Power Company at the Chin Shan nuclear station ended, Tim actually had two callsigns. BV2A was used on CW and BV2B on Phone. "Bravo Victor 2 Bravo" had a nice swing to it.
>
> At that time, Taiwan was prohibited from working any communist countries, given their history with China. I don't believe that is still in force today. I would have TONS of Russians calling me and I so badly wanted to start a run but Tim kept cautioning me. I simply had to ignore them and it was always one hell of a pileup from them.
>
> Tim was a super nice guy. Very professional with a very pleasant personality, a super guy. The station was on the top floor of a building in downtown Taipei that had a sliding door where you could walk out of part of the roof where the antennas were. Back then the noise was not bad at all. I can imagine what it would be like there today. Tim, of course, is SK now. The first time I wanted to meet him I wasn't exactly sure how to proceed so I ask our agent in Taipei if he would do me a favor and contact him. A couple of days later he said Tim will come in to the city tonight and meet you at this address (he had it written on a piece of paper) at 7:00 PM. I grabbed a taxi and Tim was standing outside waiting on me when I arrived.

It doesn't smoke, but smells like burning metal when I try to transmit. Opened the case and there is no sign of burned circuitry, but the TX boards have the smell I was smelling. I'll be sending it in for repair.
>
> I discovered a few weeks ago when I noticed unusually high SWR on the power meter and I could not make a simple contact, the Alpha Delta arrestor on the antenna had shorted out. I replaced the fuse, and it was better, but when I by-passed the whole arrestor, the SWR was a point lower on all bands. It had been up to 4-4.5 on 15m and about 5.5 with the blown fuse. So I'm not a fan of the arrestors any more. Seems they can cause issues even with a good fuse. I was using the 2KW version, so maybe I should have been using the 500KW one.
>
> Anyway, I had already ordered an IC-7100 for portable use and as a backup. It doesn't have a tuner, so I'm careful to keep it under 50 watts and only on 40m where the SWR is 1.5 or less.
>
> In the meantime, I also have a new PAR Quad Band Half Wave End Fed to put up over the holidays. So I'll have a well tuned 40-20-15-10m antenna. Need to come up with a 80m homebrew dipole so I can finish DXCC on 80m.
