You got that right, EJ… So many DXpeditions have to rely on ops who have money $$ available and the TIME to take off for a 3-5 week trip. Younger guys are working, and most would not commit to paying $5000-8000 up front to get the DXped started. And likely no employer would allow the op to take off for a month or so. Those younger guys who DO go on the long, expensive DXpeditions are financially sound and have a family business or whatever. Energy levels are sapped after a few days of limited sleep and constantly doing this and that, outside of actual operating when your turn comes up. That’s why team makeup becomes sorta “set” with some DXpeditions and they can choose 10-12 operators from a pool of 15-20 retired guys..

Hope injured op is OK. Look at the average age of the guys on these strenuous trips and it’s not surprising that there are injury and health issues.

Bernie’s info yesterday that came from W0GJ did not say WHO the team member was who had several fractures from a fall and had to be shipped off to better medical facilities via boat. Anyone know who the injured VP6 operator was? GJ is an orthopedic surgeon and I am sure tried his best to stabilize the injured operator.
One op friend I talked to on SSB mentioned the horrible slippery terrain, especially with recent heavy rain. The bad hill climbing is one reason WB9Z had to back out of the trip due to his bad knee arthritis pain. Some DXped climates are so difficult.
The T30GC ends on Wednesday. Only 3 ops and signals not that great but they try. Luckily got them on RTTY. Mainly a CW operation and only have 2 SSB Qs. The 5K0K should be closing down soon too. Have one RTTY QSO with them too but looking for a 30m RTTY Q if they get back on that band. They have only made two 24 SSB QSOs… Neither of these operations have I heard on 28mc..
Have a good week all,
San
