[ADXA] Rebel Group and Bouvet - SORRY for this long reply to entire group..

TU Steve and Rory for comments. I just feel sorry for the DXer who chases and chases and spends money on pre-trip donations and/or for QSL card return and then nothing comes back to the ones who might work someone and need for an ATNO. The complaints on the Rebel site clearly show lack of post trip communications and lack of paper QSLs they paid for. ARRL sorta forces the LoTW timely updates of DXpeditions.

Those guys do have a right to bitch, as it has happened to them. The majority of DXped trips know that to get future pre-trip donations from Foundations, Clubs and individuals that you have to live up to expectations and deliver. One guy in the past who pursued P5 N. Korea got reprimanded by 100% of the clubs and foundations because he wanted big funding donations up front and no proof that his trip was authorized, despite him saying he was sending ham gear there for ‘storage’.. At about that time, then all DX trips support $$, pre or post trip, started getting tough, wanting proof of operation, mainly due to less money in the club funds to donate on the front end. Even our ADXA looks closely at standings on the DXCC need ladder, who the leaders are and their past history of authenticity, etc. before donating from our limited funds of support.

I was just wondering about our ADXA members who DID work the Conway Reef and who did donate in some way perhaps, if they got QSL card confirmation if asked for. The ARRL is pretty strict on a DXpedition not doing LoTW for many, many months, and especially if none at all. The general “OK” rule is to confirm via LoTW within 6 months or the ARRL has the right to discuss not allowing the DXpedition if it appears to have been unethical on several fronts. Happened decades ago twice and went before the board and DXAC when I was Chairman. Tough discussions. FUV might remember the specifics on one or both. One even purposely did not work some top DXers that he had a beef with..

So, since I have not contributed or asked for a QSL from Dom’s Rebel Group trip to Conway Reef, tho worked them on 6 band modes, I am just standing by for now to see what happens and how it might reflect on any 3Y0 trip coming up. On the Bouvet situation, I have nothing to bitch about, especially since I have Bouvet on several band/modes from years ago. But, I do need it on RTTY and 80-40 meters but no real chance from here with present antenna situation. I do and will speak out if it pertains to ADXA members who have been jilted in any way… All of our members are ethical and try to be understanding of all DXpedition involvements. But for those who need a significant # of DXCC countries still, and if they contribute to most of them, I want them to get a fair shake. The donation $$ does add up, as us old timers went thru years ago when we gave $1-2 per card, equivalent to $5-6 now. HI HI

Now, just wish the TO80SP wud get a signal in here on 21 and 24mc before going QRT tomorrow!! Then in FOUR more days, get ready for VP6R, Pitcairn Island. Should create a good pileup!
73, now back to Pro football games..

Ouch!  Agree Rory.  Easy for us to sit back and bitch.  You have encourage, support financially and hope for the best.

I’m an Irish Protestant.  What did your Dad say about us?  :)))))))

73,

I do really feel sorry for those guys... I really do believe that they made a good attempt to get there and had good intentions of completing the DXpedition.  But as Dad would have said "their a bunch of Polocks".

Anyone notice the lack of information on the Rebel Group website since late July? Almost 2 ½ months and they never went to the second place he (Dom) and his Japanese team member were supposed to activate, and they have their own updated boat, navigation system, radar,  etc. I am glad I did not send for a QSL and have them keep the $$ for other things besides a QSL’s postage back to USA.. Has anyone in the ADXA received a QSL from Dom yet for 3D2CR, Conway Reef ??? Curious…

No updates on what’s wrong, where they are and the status of Bouvet which they said they would definitely activate this winter. Several disgruntled DXers commented on the Rebel web about sending emails to Dom and after weeks and weeks of wondering about their QSLs not coming, and there had been no answers. One said he was a $$ donor but no more!  The web director said Dom would be replying.  Any of this sound familiar?? Yep…

So looks like the possibility of a Bouvet attempt is not very good, sorry for the ADXA members who might need it for an ATNO. That’s part of the DXing game…
San   Go Hogs!! 13-0 now, Hogs…
