I managed to get through on 160 also. Saw David on the spotting network and
Don's email but the DX was still in and out at about 6:45 local. Went up to
make a cup of coffee and came back at around 7:11 local and he was pretty
solid and not hard to work. In fact, it was a big enough improvement that
this talk of Slim made me wonder. I'll know when I see it in ClubLog.
I more or less just have the 134' inverted L. So a couple days ago I went
out and disconnected the EFHW matcher and put on an L-match that gives me a
low enough SWR on 160 that I can use my AL-811. I need some more antennas,
or a way of changing from 160 to HF that doesn't involve pliers,
screwdrivers and a trip to the back yard.
Maybe tomorrow, 80 and 40 - assuming he's still around.
