As the recent flurry of DXPeditions go QRT and the weather is getting
warmer with a break from the constant rain of the past five months
attention begins to focus on other activities.
The 3Y0I crew is very close to Bouvet however they are in the middle of
a very severe storm. If you are keeping an eye on the GPS tracking of
the boat you will notice they have turned away from Bouvet. There was a
RUMOR, repeat RUMOR floating around yesterday that they had turned back.
In the era of FAKE NEWS even amateur radio is not exempt. The Captain
has simply turned the boat into the wind/storm and maneuvered around for
safety. A report from a few hours ago is at:

With the break in the rain, N5QS and I were finally able to get back to
work on a major tower project here at W5ZN that we have been trying to
restart since October 1 that had an originally scheduled completion date
of November 1!!!! We were even able to get the concrete truck in and out
without it becoming a permanently buried lawn fixture although there are
a few sets of ruts in the yard. Those will work out with no trace in a
few months though! I have all of the ring rotors reconditioned and
serviced and ready to go so hopefully in the next week or two this
project will finally be completed.
I usually start taking up all of my 160 meter RX antennas around the
middle to end of March as the 160 meter season comes to an end in the
northern hemisphere. Since I need Bouvet on 160 they are still out. That
is a full day job or more to get all of the verticals pulled, coax and
control cables rolled up and everything stored in the shop for the
summer and hay cutting.
I hope everyone was successful with 5X3C, 5V7EI, XR0ZRC and 7P8LB. If
you're not ready for Bouvet you still have a few days but don't wait and
definitely do NOT, NOT, miss this one. The next op from there, if there
ever is one, will occur after several of us are SK!!!
