[ADXA] China on 6m?

June 24 was a great propagation day. My 4X4DK post this year was just SWLing. I got him last year and didn’t call because it might prevent others from getting a ATNO on 6. He had good sig here for about half an hour. Last year I worked him on June 23. He was in for 70 minutes last year! That solstice gets those E’s revved up I guess. I worked several countries in EU this year on the 24th.

I’m running a M2 6M9KHW- 9 element at 100 feet. Thank you to Roger QS and Craig Faith for fixing my rotor!!

A lot of 6 meters is just being on band at exactly the right time since openings are fleeting. I’ve set up TeamViewer and run stuff remotely from office during weekdays. FT8 is perfect for remote operation. TeamViewer is free. Mostly watch weather forecast for stormy days. Hi!

Don’t understand all the gloom and doom stuff about FT8. It’s not as mindless as portrayed by the anti-digital crowd anyway. Let me tell you that just because you print someone certainly does not mean you will work him/her. It’s a great propagation checker on 6 meters too. Fascinating how there are long haul micro openings all through the day during this time of year.

Good DX Y’all .

The problem with story telling is that the first liar doesn't stand a chance! The tales always get bigger and better!

The other morning I was on 6M FT8 point toward EU...hoping for an opening when I noticed Rick, K5UR, calling 4X4DK. I wasn't decoding the 4X4 but wan't surprised...different locations and Rick has lots more aluminum than I on 6M. In a few minutes I started decoding the 4X4 and started calling. Then Richard, K5NA started calling him. Finally, Frank, K3LPL, joined the fray. The 4X4 was fairly strong ... -17 to -15 (not in CW territory San) but he either had a high noise level on his end or was just having fun watching us all call?? Frank, LPL, did a presentation at Dayton this year on 6M yagis and had photos of his 11L on 70ft+ boom. He explained that he needed that many elements to get adequate spacing between elements at the balance point. The yagi is side mounted on something like a 55G tower and he wanted to keep the elements spaced away from the tower to minimize degradation. I thought about all the "heavies" calling and decided to quit! Later I noticed a spot from EJ, K5EJ, who had worked Ami, 4X4DK, (who has 203 entities on 6M) earlier in the morning with a note on the spot something like "Great...we worked again this year". What's your secret weapon EJ??

This morning I saw our illustrious leader, ZN, calling CT1HZE (Joe...publisher of DUBUS magazine), on 6M FT8. Joel called Joe for several minutes and I kept waiting for an FT8 free form message to pop up saying "Your Weak". I'll leave it to your imagination to figure out who among us might do something like that!

I'm with Jay, W5JAY, I wish I had gotten involved with VHF/UHF sooner. I made my first 6M Q in January, 2012. My 6th 6M QSO was with Bob, ZL1RS, on 6M CW. I was using a IC7000, 100W and a M2 3L yagi at about 16ft (push up mast on the side of the house). I worked him right after he worked Al, W5LUA. I was completely amazed. A year later, Jim, KH6/K6MIO, presented a paper about the opening at the Central States VHF Society conference. It is the Magic band. I have an eight band Rover now and love getting out in contests. My buddy Steve, AG4V/R had several 902 and 1296 CW Qs over 400km during the June contest.....Rover to Rover.....too cool for school!

When I started working new DXCC entities on 6M using FT8 I felt like I was cheating. I had seen many comments along the lines of San's and felt FT8 was just too easy. During an opening to JA last summer I worked Kan, JA1BK. I then realized virtually everyone was jumping on the FT8 bandwagon and got over my guilt!

San, I'm sorry to hear you are leaving 6M. I worked you during the June VHF test. I was in my Rover on Mt. Magazine with my 6M Moxon pointed south and heard you calling CQ. I worked you off the back of the Moxon with 200W. I said Hi but you were probably having a hard time hearing me. Glad you are in my log.

Pat, W5VY

That was that massive and probably the best 6m opening of all times. I ran JA’s off my old home brew long boom 6el line it was 10m!

Good one. I saw some west coast guys posted him last night and a VK was copying KA9CFD. Have to listen this evening to see if they are in there again. I got in a little later and didn’t hear anything good

Guys this seems to be real. I am pointed in the right direction and printing out BA4SI on 6m FT8. Even on that mode it is hard for me to believe. Sadly I don’t have enough power for the BA4 to see me! ☹

I was telling Bill K5FUV that I was seeing some countries all over the UK and now in the far east.

That does it, the manual on the 7 element M2 is on the bench and been looking at 6m amps, hi.

BTW, he is a -17 on me right now. Has been as high as -12
