[ADXA] RG-400 -vs- RG-142

Steve, N4JQQ, and I were discussing RG-400 the other day and he
mentioned he had some RG-142. It worth noting to the group here that
RG-142 is almost identical to RG-400 with the exception that 142 has a
solid, copper clad silver plated center conductor and 400 is a stranded,
100% copper silver plated center conductor which allows a tighter
bending radius than 142. Other than that they are practically identical
with the silver plated double shield and teflon dielectric.

Regarding my comment that I use RG-400 exclusively in my shack now when
I referenced K9YC's paper I want to clarify that I only have chokes on
the RG400 in my receive antenna systems. For simple interconnecting
between radio & amp, etc I do not use chokes. I do find an improvement
by just going from standard RG58 to the RG400.

Of course, the chokes have made a significant improvement in noise
reduction here at W5ZN not just on coax but any cable that I discover is
a noise noise source/radiator. Some of these include USB cables, speaker
leads or control lines.
