The BOG is still an option. Use a couple of quarter wave radials on each end and skip the ground rods

Subject: [ADXA] 80M receive antenna suggestions wanted
Last year we had rain, lightning, and tornado warnings at Field Day and I was the genius who set up the CW station in a screenhouse. I’m determined to do better in 2020 at the new location where we have shelter but not as much property. During the night, the SSB, GOTA, and digital stations will mostly be on 40 meters, so I’ll need to concentrate on 80. I hate listening to summer static all night so I’d like to use a receive antenna.
I was encouraged about the BOG after Joel’s talk, and would have room for one over 100 feet long pointed NE. The problem is that there are underground utilities and numerous high pressure gas lines in the area, and I don’t really want to get the One Call folks involved. So - no ground rods available except the one at the AC service entrance right next to the building.
Is there a receive antenna I could use that doesn’t depend on ground rods? “The Google” isn’t encouraging about using radials in place of ground rods for Beverage antennas. Even a K9AY loop seems to need a good ground.
Any suggestions would be welcomed. We will probably go to the site for Winter Field Day in January and I’d like to have some ideas to try out.
73,
Dennis
