Its past time for me to provide a few updates on ADXA things. Given a
few inquiries about our website and the fact we have some new members I
should provide some details.
First, let me publicly apologize to Jonathan, QJ, for slamming him
during his attempt at a bit of humor. Wasn't my intention to come across
harsh however email sometimes (always?) doesn't display a person's
intent correctly.
I am very pleased to see all of the DX station alerts, comments and
questions posed here on the reflector. That is its purpose and it is
servicing ADXA very well in that regard. Please keep it up!
The membership list and standings list on our website, and everything
else, is updated manually. Nothing is pulled in automatically from other
sources. Pat, W5VY and I take care of various areas of interest and
obviously our intent and focus is to keep it current. When someone joins
or renews online, both Glenn and I receive an email advising us of it,
or at least we should. There has been a situation or two when we both,
or one of us, did not. If that occurs, Glenn picks it up when he is
notified of a PayPal deposit from you. When I receive the email for a
new member I will update the list and send out a "Welcome" email to our
reflector. If you mail your membership application via USPS mail with a
check it goes to Glenn. He sends me periodic updates from his list,
which is the "Official List" and I bounce it against what we have on the
web page. If at anytime you see a discrepancy simply drop me a note off
line from the reflector and I'll look in to it. If there are omissions
or errors I can assure you they are simply based on unintentional
oversight on my part, nothing else.
For the member standings, Pat takes care of those. There is no automatic
download from the ARRL DXCC records or anywhere else. You must provide
your data. Please be accurate and please send those in. I want to beg,
plead and pretty please as much as possible to ask you to send in your
standings so we can post them. Yea I know you may not feel too good
about sending in 97 countries when some of the guys have over 350 but
that's not the point. The point is to get those numbers in so we can
assist you in reaching that 350 plus total! It is also extremely
pleasing to us to see your progress climbing the ladder and also shows
the world that ADXA is a vibrant DX club that continues to grow despite
some others in a slump. So please, send in your totals to Pat even if
you are an Associate Member with 15 countries!
ADXA Most Needrd List - This week I sent out the draft Excel spreadsheet
that J, N5LKE whipped up. He has received about 15 responses. THANK YOU.
I have only heard from one person who experienced some complication with
the file. I am NOT a software expert by any means however I do know that
if you do not have real Excel program and are trying to open the file in
a secondary type program that displays xls files you may have some
trouble. So far, though, it appears just about everyone had success. J
and Pat will have a report at our 3rd Quarter Meeting in Searcy.
3rd Quarterly Meeting Location - OK I'll go ahead an spill the beans.
The meeting is tentatively, repeat tentatively scheduled to be an open
house, tour and meeting at the W5ZN Superstation. There are a number of
things that need to occur between now and then to make that happen.
Depending on the WX and W5ZN, N5QS, N5QT, N5LKE, WA5YSD and KB5RFF's
schedule they will get done. If not, we will fall back to a meeting room
at a restaurant in Searcy. Regardless, plan to travel to Searcy
September 21 for our meeting.
Huntsville Hamfest - If by chance you will be attending the Huntsville
Hamfest this weekend consider attending the DX Banquet Saturday night. I
will be the speaker, which is not as significant as the fact the
Northern Alabama DX gang is a great group of folks to hang with. I will
be speaking on four topics; The W5ZN Station, ARRL, What's Killing
Amateur Radio, and What you can do individually to stop it! There will
also be a very unique DX standup and sit down!
That's all for now. Based on the reflector chat most of you are doing
this so I don't have to say "GET ON THE AIR AND WORK SOME DX"!!!
