[ADXA] Logging evolved

Good Monday morning to all.

I began keeping the little ARRL log books and moved on to the larger ones
and did this for many years even after logging was relaxed or deemed not
required.

At some point when computer came along, I wrote a logging program that was
very simple but did what was necessary. As time and technology moved
forward, I recreated my logging software in a number of formats, but making
sure that I could export, or read the file, to bring it into the next
rendition. I actually used PC File to create my last working log book back
in it's heyday. I tried using a couple of other programs after that, but
they were just to complicated to create the simple log format I needed.

Along comes HRD and the Simon years. I stumbled onto this program and
immediately fell in love with it. I was able to export and import my log
from PC File after some messing with the data export.

I've been with HRD throughout most of it's lifetime and had a good
relationship with Simon. He incorporated a few of my ideas as time
passed. I don't remember now what, but I do remember that I was excited to
see my simple ideas implemented in his software.

Of course I was concerned when he sold out and "retired", but I stuck with
HRD and found it to continue to move, if somewhat slower under the initial
leadership at HRD. Too much time was placed on areas that just one
developer wanted at the customers expense, while ignoring some of the
shortcomings of the overall package. Once this individual left, things
started to pick up with fixing many of the outstanding defects from the
turn-over day.

I've had some aggravations with HDR over the years, but I've stuck with it
and keep my support current. Over the years, I have looked at other
packages and even learned how to use a couple of them. I'm a big fan of
Scott's suite and have purchased the whole banana from him. I use some of
his specialty programs for specific events and then export/import the
results into HRD. But at least his software exports contest logs properly,
something HRD still does not do.

In all these years, I never converted many of my paper logs from my
Technician years on 2m and 70cm to computer, but did extract the HF
contacts on 10m from the books. I still have the paper log books, but the
ink is fading as do my memories of those by-gone days.

My 2-cents.
