To add my shiny, new copper, 2 cents ;-) to Joel's points.  Like most of 
you, I've been through more sunspot cycles than I care to admit.  Sure 
is fun at the peak of the good ones.  Sure is fun at the peak (or double 
peak) of the weaker ones.  "Sure is fun at the bottom of all of them."  
Always some good DX to work ...

Though I don't transmit SSTV much -- due to some of the garbage that 
some stations put out -- I keep an extra rig on 14.230 whenever I'm 
home, awake, and there are no T-Storms.  Just to see what DX shows up in 
that small corner (mode) of the hobby.  Heck, sometimes I think there 
are only 20-30 hams on SSTV total, LOL. Not every night ...but many 
evenings and late at night, or early AM .. VK/ZL/Asia show up in the 
saved MMSSTV history ... strong enough for some decent SSTV pix.  Yep, 
we all got VK/ZL on 20m ... but the point being (as us OT's know), some 
good Prop is there to places like the S Pacific, at odd times here.  But 
nobody is home.

Funny how 20m is dead all week, then on a big contest weekend it's open 
to some good DX all night almost, hihi!  That's an important point to 
get across to newcomers to DXing and our hobby.
