David, I heard you work him. He was absolutely booming in, +30 over S9,
the strongest I've heard him on any band. He is S2 now so doesn't look
good for SSB today. That's OK, CW contacts are definitely the highest
priority.
Earl, yes I noted the RTTY Roundup change - it's a new day. However, I'm
not sure FT8 contacts will be as quick as RTTY. It's amazing to see how
quickly contacts can be made on RTTY. I have done quite a bit of it at
times but not too much in recent years. I like the sound of it - sounds
like music, and FT8 sounds like a hive of buzzing hornets. I'm interested
to see how FT8 will affect Field Day - should be an absolute zoo.
San - yes, aging is causing us all to make changes and think about the
future. I've been writing notes for the family like "This is a Schurr
Profi 3 - don't throw it away". Yes, it is a real Profi 3. Not very many
of them were made. I think people have already figured out how to
completely automate FT8 so they don't even have to be home and it can work
autonomously. I suppose that is illegal on HF, but so are many other
things that are done. I'm looking forward to seeing you and everyone in
December. While I've been writing this, VP6D is up to S9 now so will hope
for SSB.
73,
Dennis
