[ADXA] EP - Iran

Dennis' EP story & Rick's response reminded me of at least one EP QSO I had in early 1973. Mine was with EP2SP, an op named Stan, and the log shows a notation that he "Knows Rick/EP2DX." I don't think "I" knew Rick at that time, so the log entry is intriguing....especially since my QSO wasn't exotic like Dennis', but was with my DA2ER call, hi.

Other interesting log entries were various hams here in Arkansas who kindly ran phone patches back to our families. (Anyone remember the "I love you! OVER!" patches? HI)
Amateur radio saved my bacon on many occasions while providing field communications out in the German forests.
73/DX,

Nice Dennis... you probably know he
Was the U.S. Ambassador to Iran.
He had left by the time I got to
Iran in 1969... he was then Ambassador to Japan. I did work
Him later when I was EP2DX !

We had a Heathkit DX-60 and matching receiver and we strung a random wire out through some trees. It wasn’t a big station but we were always cruising for DX. One night, we heard EP3AM with a loud signal and one of the biggest pileups I had ever heard. Of course we called him! Our mighty 50 watts and little wire broke through on about the third call, and we were on top of the world!

>> Bernie, W3UR reports in The Weekly DX that a group of Russian radio amateurs will activate Shif Island November 17-23. It has taken some time to obtain the license and all of the operating permission however that is now all in hand and ready. They plan 160 through 10 meters CW, SSB and especially for you FT8 lizards they will be active there as well. :-)

>> I am fortunate to have Iran on 80 through 10 meters. I need them on 160 so I will be glued to the radio from our sunset until their sunrise in Iran each night gunning for them on top band.

>> Get your station and antennas ready NOW if you haven't already!!!
