The 2nd Quarterly Meeting of the ADXA will be June 16 in Fort Smith from
11 AM to 2 PM at the Western Sizzlin' Steakhouse. Specific details to
follow. Thanks to Bill W5SJ for arranging.
I always have to refocus after the end of the 160/80 meter DX season when
spring arrives although a lot of radio activity has been occurring.
This year I decided I would go to the International DX Convention in
Visalia, CA. If you've never been I can't really say it is worth your time
and money to go. This was my third time to attend although the first in
about 10 or 12 years. The venue is very nice and there is just about
everything DX there although I do not attend any of the banquets.
especially the big Saturday evening banquet that can go on for hours. I
burned out on banquets during my ARRL tenure and avoid them like the
plague these days however for those who do enjoy them this one is first
class. You've heard me mention Jim K9YC many times during some of my
presentations. Attached is a photo someone snapped of Jim and I chatting
at Visalia this year. I always tell Jim he's the spitting image of Albert
Einstein he would blow his hair out! :-))
Of course I made the annual trek to Dayton this year. I really do like the
new facilities in Xenia, OH much better than the old dilapidated HARA
Arena. Much nicer, cleaner and all around good. They're still working out
a few kinks that pop up however they appear to have addressed all of the
issues from last year's first event there very well. Pat, W5VY attended
this year as well. This year I did two presentations at Contest
University. A photo of the 300 registered attendees is attached. I was
also invited to present at the Antenna Forum on the new 160 meter transmit
antenna I built last fall so it was a busy few days for me. Attached is a
photo of Bernie W3UR (The Daily & Weekly DX), Jerry WB9Z of the Bouvet
Team and myself.
We have the KH1/KH7Z Baker Island DXPedition coming up in a few weeks at
the end of June. If you don't have this one, plan your schedule to pick it
up on at least one band. It won't be back on for quite some time. I need
them on 160 meters which may be a bit tough during the summer months. All
of my 160 meter receive antennas have been taken up and stored in the shop
for the summer so I need to throw out something temporary during that
time.
During our March meeting in Russellville you unanimously expressed very
high interest in holding another convention in December similar to what we
had last year. Based on that I have begun some initial planning to hold
the event at the same venue with a format similar to last year. I also
have a VERY VERY special guest tentatively committed to be our guest who
can present a couple of very outstanding sessions on antennas and
propagation, especially during these low sunspot times. As Paul Harvey
used to say "STANDBY FOR NEWS!"
Please plan to be in Fort Smith on June 16! Program details to follow.
