Now that fall is here....at least by the calendar and not by the near
record heat, the DX and contest season is well underway. There has been,
and currently is, a good bit of DX on that you need, at least on one band.

H44GC and H40GC - Stan just completed his trip and gave me a new one of 160.

S9YY has been on with gud sigs, especially on 40 meters. They are now QRT.

V6Z is still on several bands

TL0A is on from Gabon. He has been spotted on 10 meters every morning for
the past few days. Yesterday we had decent 10 meter conditions and his
signal peaked around 1400z (9:00 AM local) and I worked him. When the
higher bands died out he kept moving down. Late yesterday afternoon he was
on 30 meters with a very good sig. I did not have TL on 30 meters and I
don't have my 30 meter antenna back up yet so I resorted to my trusty
dipole. I went out and hung the apex up about 35 feet and tied the ends
out as far as I could. It was sort of a split between a dipole and an
inverted Vee but it worked, and I was able to nab TL on 30 meters. So,
once again, if you don't have an antenna for a specific band get a dipole
up, or as a minimum ready to throw up temporarily, if needed. The 10 meter
Q was also a new one for me with TL.

This weekend (starting tonight at 7:00 PM local, actually) is the CQWW DX
Phone Contest. Here is an golden opportunity to pick up some new ones.
This is the first BIG DX contest of the season and for you non-CW guys
this is your time. Get on and search out a few new ones. The exchange is
your CQ Zone. For those of us in Arkansas, we are in Zone 4, so the report
you will send is "59 4". I won't be actively participating in this
contest, but if some of you Searcy guys want to come out for a couple of
hours and operate let me know and we'll work out a schedule.

GL es DX
