We tend to focus on the amateur radio teams that sacrifice personal
comfort, family, work and finance to go to remote places on earth and
establish temporary amateur radio stations in order to give us the thrill
and enjoyment of a new DXCC entity. It keeps us energized and continually
working to improve our stations in order to get that rare one in the log
on a new band.
Once that is complete we wait and anticipate the teams return to tell us
of their adventure and the challenges they faced. One unsung hero that
often times goes unmentioned, or under mentioned, is the captain and crew
of the Braveheart.....the ocean going vessel that has been contracted time
and time again go take these teams to some of the most desolate locations
on earth. You have recently heard reference to the Braveheart that helped
make South Sandwich and South Georgia Islands possible. They are currently
on their way back to the Falkland Islands to deliver the VP8 team safely
back to Port Stanley.
But what's next for the Braveheart and her crew? They will immediately
depart the Falkland Islands and steam across the south Atlantic toward
Cape Town, South Africa on her next mission......to meet up with the VK0EK
team heading to yet another remote, desolate amateur radio DXpedition
location, Heard Island!
Take a few moments and visit www.braveheart.pn for information about this
ship and crew. It is a very important part of three of the most
significant DXpeditions of the past 15 to 20 years, and the next 20 years
to come.
