[ADXA] NPOTA Experience - Feb 5

Friday found me about 30 miles south of Socorro, NM, at the El Camino Real
de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail (The Royal Road of the Interior).
  I had run this earlier in January but only about 10 miles north of my
house.

This spot (on Friday) is actually a New Mexico state museum and was
excellent. The trail was established in 1598 and was the main north-south
artery for commerce with Mexico. It runs from Veracruz through Mexico City
north to the San Juan Pueblo (north of Santa Fe, NM), the first Spanish
capital in New Mexico. The frontier wagon road brought Spanish colonists
into today's New Mexico. The route spans three centuries, two countries,
and 1600 miles.

The northern tribes traded salt, hides, slaves, peyote, minerals, pigments
and turquoise. The southern tribes came northward with exotic feathers,
live macaws, copper bells and shells. Historically, this road led to the
exchange of culture, foods, ideas, languages, materials, and faiths.
