Ham Com W5DXCC June 8-9, 2007 Dinner and program door prizes.

Many, many generous donors have contributed thousands dollars in
door prizes to both the W5DXCC DX dinner June 8 and the DX programs
sponsored by the Lone Star DX Association, June 8-9 2007 at Ham-Com in
Plano TX.

The main DX Dinner door prizes include not one, but TWO Grand prizes:

Tennadyne has donated a $725 gift certificate for a Tennadyne T8 log
periodic antenna, or if the winner chooses, a Cubix Quad antenna of
their choice. http://www.tennadyne.com <http://www.tennadyne.com> or
http://www.cubex.com/ <http://www.cubex.com/>

The second dinner grand prize will be a computer controlled 4500 series
Alpha Radio Products SWR/PWR meter. http://www.alpharadioproducts.com/
<http://www.alpharadioproducts.com/>

DX Dinner tickets are $36 and can be ordered online at
http://www.hamcom.org/ <http://www.hamcom.org/> via PayPal and click on
the DX dinner icon midway
down the page. Those who can't take advantage of on-line DX dinner
ticket ordering may send their checks or money orders to Jim Bass, K5KQI
2709 Monarch Dr., Arlington, TX 76006.

Dinner ticket ordering deadline is June 1. Order your DX dinner and Ham
Com tickets now so you won't forget after being exhausted by next
weekend's Dayton Hamvention.

There will be a limit of 225 tickets sold, so get yours early before
they sell out as tickets did sell out last year. Such a bargain at even
twice the price of the $36 dinner ticket price. Fair Dinkum value.

The DX dinner will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Southfork Hotel
at 1600 North Central Expressway (U.S. Highway 75), headquarters for Ham
Com and the DX hospitality room. As of last week the hotel still had
rooms available. Call toll free 1-866-665-2680 for reservations.
The hotel web site is available through the Ham Com web site or
directly at http://foreverlodging.com/destination.cfm?PropertyKey=72
<http://foreverlodging.com/destination.cfm?PropertyKey=72>

The dinner menu will be announced later.

Dr. Glen Johnson, W0GJ, will be the main dinner speaker and present an
Audio/visual program on the VU7RG/VU7MY DXpedition to the Lakshadweep
Islands last winter. http://www.vu7.in/ <http://www.vu7.in/>

Bharathi Prasad, VU2RBI and her daughter, Ms.D.S.Mahathi, VU3DSM,who
both operated from VU7MY, will be special guests at the dinner.

Other major DX dinner door prizes include so far: a Fluke 117/322
Electrician's Combo Kit, a Heil headset, a W2IHY 8-band mike equalizer,
a Bird Model 43 SWR/PWR meter and a certificate for an element of the
winner's choice, a Comet/Daiwa 801HP SWR/PWR meter, a Ten-Tec QRP rig
kit, and a Buddipole gift certificate.

A special XYL dinner door prize will be a gift certificate for a free
hotel room night for two persons plus breakfast at Remington's
Restaurant in the Southfork Hotel. The LSDXA will also provide
appropriate refreshments to help XYL's "forget" their OM's temporarily
if they choose to stay on a contest weekend. XYL prize stubs will be
collected separately for the XYL only drawings, then mixed into the main
ticket container for a chance to win one of the major dinner door prizes.

More dinner and DX program door prizes including others for XYLs ONLY
will be announced later.

Ham Com 2007. http://southfork.com/ <http://southfork.com/>

Ladies, there is also plenty of shopping and restaurants around the
hotel and the Collin Creek Mall is located nearby. Just make a deal
with your OM that whatever he spends in the flea market or with the
commercial exhibitors you get to spend a like amount shopping near Ham
Com. Just be back in time Friday for the DX dinner.

Following the dinner, the Lone Star DX Association and the North Texas
Contest Club will host the ever popular DX/Contest hospitality suite for
a time of fellowship and renewing old friendships at the Southfork.

market space, or a commercial booth exhibit space through me hi hi). I
hope to see all of you there.

PS:

Please, if you win a door prize of any kind, write the donor and tell
them how much you appreciate their generosity. Apparently Ham Com and
LSDXA door prize winners are the only ones from the major ham
conventions who regularly write thank you letters, emails, etc., my
donors tell me. It makes them feel appreciated. The name and address of
the donor will usually be attached to the door prize. Many of the
donors will be exhibitors at Ham Com, so go by their booth and (XYLs
only) give their booth staffs a hug or in the case of OM's a handshake
will suffice along with a thank you. A few years ago Hustler Antennas
donated several antennas to the then DX luncheon and DX programs. You
should have seen the shocked look on the face of the Hustler sales
manager when she started getting all these hugs from men who just walked
up to her booth.

W2IHY Technologies owner Julius Jones, W2IHY, got a nice write up and
several photographs one year in QST magazine when a group of middle
school students who had won the mike equalizer at the DX luncheon for
their school ham station came over in a group (they were all wearing
green shirts)to thank him and then stood attentively while he showed
them how the equalizer could change the sound of their voice. Julius
told me later he loved talking to the students and wouldn't have traded
the experiences he had with those middle school students at Ham Com for
any amount of sales.

A few years ago the winner of the Fluke Electronics door prize at the DX
dinner wrote such a moving thank you letter, he was a church
electrician, that my contact at Fluke and the Fluke Customer Service
manager posted a copy of it in the work space of EVERY Fluke customer
service representative and it was forwarded to the President and CEO of
Fluke.

Please feel free to forward our news releases to your DX club bulletins,
friends, XYLs, significant others, etc. I know I'm wordy, but your
bulletin editors can edit and chop words as they choose. The 20+ years I
spent as a daily newspaper reporter in Texas I had lots of stories
chopped, some to pieces that they never made the paper hi hi.

If you want me to shorten my news releases, buy a DX dinner ticket hi
hi. Vote with your tickets.
