[ACARS] ACARSD Client

To All,
    A couple of question to all regarding acarsd client/server programs.

I am trying to write my own client and attach to a server. I connect 
find and get lots of data coming from the server. It' in binary form now.
I can tell that the ACARS messages are coming across in XML format. Is 
there any way to tell the server just to send an ASCII string across?

Number two: anyone been able to create a DDE link to acarsclient? How?
