Just doing this above it will not run  in windows !!!
Jacars needs a Java runtime environment !!!

THE ROAD TO INTERNATIONAL ACARS

Welcome to Jacars the ultimate programme designed to connect you to
acars systems around the world


downloading and installation

Jacars will connect you to a series of acars servers around the world.
At the moment the system is under beta test but never the less there are
several servers up and running from which you can watch live acars
reports from other nations from your own computer system

Jacars requires to be run in a Java runtime environment so the first
thing you need to do it download and install the following programme

J2SE v 1.4.2_03 

go to this site:-

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

under the section :-

Download JS2E v 1.4.2_03
Select download under column JRE

licence agreement will appear select accept

window now displays various programme option
it is vital you select the correct download for your operating system
in the case of the more common one being windows you need:-

Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language (j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-
i586-p.exe, 14.52 MB) 

it is recommended you select the off line option download file onto your
hard drive and run the install 
from your own computer
The install  option from the Java site has been found to be in reliable

Hence select the 14.52 MB file

People with other operating system such as Linux will find there files
also in this section

Ok having downloaded and installed this programme

close down computer and re-start again

Now we need the vital ingredient Jacars Itself

go to the JACARS Download page at:-

Download latest Build number  Currently Build 27.ZIP

Now create a new folder on your  hard drive and name it Jacars
Unzip this file into the new folder

ATTN. You may get error messages saying some file or other has not been
unzipped

Ignore these error messages

Now its off to the new folder you unzipped to
Launch programme with .exe file

First time you do this it will auto write 3 sub folders to your jacars
folder

So now we are looking at the empty Jacars screen
Next:-

1] server
2] edit
3] download list
4] apply

Jacars will now auto connect to any servers currently running at the
time

Jacars will display any decodes from all the servers connected on the 1
screen

so how do we tell where they come from

Back to the server edit window

choose a server and put pointer into its line
Right click your mouse key and options will appear
choose a Background color for this server and then click apply

you can choose a different color for each server

Next thing to set up is the pictures and the DDE link To Airnavsystems
Airnav suite 4

1[ Edit
2] Settings

window will open

here you can select to download images and display them
also you can select if you want Jacars to save the images to your hard
disk

To connect Jacars to AN4 select the DDE link to Airnav DDE Server

airanv will find the DDE link and auto start to accept decodes

BUT you must open Jacars first then AN4 for this to happen
for the airnav experts you will find one odd event here

The Red square in bottom left of AN4 acars screen will not!! Turn Green
however the link will be established and an4 will accept the decodes
