That would seem correct (it is) as commonsense suggests that the audio
spectrum on VHF radios is quite limited (300 - 3000 Hz). Whilst a
modem can squeeze 9600bps over a telephone line, that rate does get
adjusted downwards depending on the 'quality' of the audio. By
choosing 2400 bps, it would be bound to work whatever state the radio
link was in.
As an aside, I've had good results recording ACARS using my minidisc
player. As to what use it is, I'm not sure. Any suggestions? Perhaps
we could swap minidiscs from around the world?
