Hi Ed,
as far as I know the respective registrations are the key for the
routing and and the payment of the data traffic. An aircraft, which
isn't registered with the ACARS provider won't pass any data
through, even if it's using the right airline code. I could be
wrong, but that's what I got told.

Those aircraft which fly at SN Brussels (some Avro RJs and a few
A330 are operated by them) all use SN as airline code, so I assume
that they are ones who pay. Those aircraft which are not longer
with SN Brussels and are used by other Airlines now (like the A330s
now taken up by DLH) are probably already registered to the new
airline, when they are going through the delivery procedures.
Therefore SN Brussels should get charged for them even if SN is
used as airline code (as happened with the ex Sabena A330 for DLH).
