[ACARS] Air Canada and it's problems

Hi All ,
After watching Wardair/Canada Worldwide/Nationair/Canada 3000 and Canadian Airlines and many more disappear one wonders
were it will all end - How can a Airline come to owe 13 Billion Dollars YES that's BILLION !!! Sorry guys I think Air Canada will
have to go because no matter how they try to restruture they can never find 30 Billion !! - It's all to do with Unions / Pensions
and of cause Buy Outs !! If Air Canada had left Canadian Airlines alone and not been so greedy Canadian Airlines may have made it -
And then look at Canada 3000 - It was known way before Sept 11th that they were having trouble - They moved a lot of people but no
help came their way .
Then we have Westjet - They came right up the middle and are a success - So what does Air Canada do - they wanted them
out of the way too !!! Ha but not to be !! - no matter how many low cost airlines Air Canada makes its self into it will never
work !! and why UNIONS !! Westjet is Union free ( Think the Pilots are in the Union) they work on shares which the employees buy
into . Also they are a happy young bounce of Kids - even the Captains !! They make you feel like they what you on their flights and
it's not unusual for Clive Beddoe to be seen cleaning up a Plane for the turn around trip !!
I remember the first flight Westjet made out of Calgary - it took off at 8:00 am for Vancouver . The aircraft was one of
three ex Canadian B737-275's . Just as he was handed over to departure control a voice came over the radio which said " May Westjet
always be in Black Ink " often wondered who had said that !! but it sure came true - Then the Canadian Transport tried to close
them down with some Maintenance problem they said Westjet had - I once again wondered who was behind all that - was it Air Canada !!
or some arm of them trying to sink them before they go a hold of the Canadian Western market - well as we see it did not work .
There are problems being in Long Haul which Southwest or Westjet don't do - Airlines in the Long Haul business may have to
go like Peoples Express did a few years ago - Not much different than Southwest Airlines or Westjet do these days . It will be very
interesting to see how all this is going turn out but for sure we are going to see some very big changes . Looking at the big
picture Sabena and Swissair were Flag Carries and they are gone so if Air Canada goes I am sure some one else will be in there like
a dirty shirt to pick up the slack - BUT WHO is the big question - Will it be the big Airlines from the States . Is this the
beginning of the end for Canadian Flag carriers - I think so as I can not see past this 13 BILLION debt just think what the
interest on that would be a month !! one could probably buy a Airline with what it costs !!
When we look at the airlines from the past they owned their aircraft , now Airlines lease - Air Canada is no exception -
they don't own very much anymore - They sold their Aircraft even their Booking systems etc - in fact they are trying to sell every
thing which is not nailed down - sooner or later they don't have anything left to sell - Tango / Zip and Jazz are up for sale but
have no buyers - All these Air Canada low cost airlines were put in place to sink the competiotion but never worked - All it's done
is to push them into thicker red ink .
Think they should be like Eastern Airlines - when they hit the wall they asked the employees to work with management so
the Airline could turn it's self around - of cause it did then Management hit the employees in the face and down went Eastern .
Watch the news as the spin starts !! - This is going to be a big one - how will the Canadian government handle it - How
can it bail out one with out hurting another - Tax's is all the government can think about and were does all this money go too !!
I think it's time they cut the Tax's so the Airlines can see a brighter future not only in the airline business but all modes of
Travel . But as usual the little Guy will pay the bill and have very little say in the matter .
Thank goodness for ACARS - we can watch all the Airlines pop up on our screens but Air Canada many be not one of them soon
