[ACARS] reply settings

there have been some comments as of late about the way the list is set to
reply, this is just to explain the settings (it comes up every now and than)
the reply to list and reply to private is a double edge sword so to speak.
and has been the debate amongst list owners and users for years. on the one
hand if set to reply to list (like this one is) any answers to questions go
to the list and can benefit us all. the down side is some times one will
forget and send a note meant for the person only.
if set to reply privately you can say anything you want but the list turns
into a bunch of questions with no answers that some or all might want to
see.
in the 4 years of running this list I've noted that the reply meant to be
sent privately happens allot less than we would see unanswered questions. so
I concluded for this list (and most any others I may run)the best setting is
reply to list. I realize this from time to time will cause a flap over
what's said but over all this happens rarely. and there is no perfect
solution to it . I am always open to discussion about this but must insist
it stay off list because it's one that that can and has gone on for years.
