Hi,
to my knowledge the last long-time user of this aircraft, A320-211
S/N 371, has been Lotus Air from Egypt. The aircraft is owned by
ILFC, hence the box probably has been installed, because it's leasing
aircraft, which often have a standard set of features, which most
operators of leased aircraft like to see in their aircraft. ACARS
capability is one of them, but obviously the current operator, who
probably isn't an ACARS subscriber altogether, hasn't bothered to
clip the respective circuit breaker of the ATSU (maybe because it's a
short term lease), which would shut the box up until it gets an
operator which is using ACARS again. The same goes for the Aircraft
Ident, which needs to be set by bridges on a coding connector in the
E/E bay.
cheers
