[ACARS] The Windows 2000/XP problem

Hi Mike,

I worked with XP professional for about a month in partallel to my NT 4.0
System on my main PC and basically AirNav run nicely with this System.
Basically only, because the program tended to freeze when AirNav got the
first signal after start. I then usually let the program run for a couple of
minutes without any signal and then it worked always and very often over
night without any problems (???). Using NT 4.0 AirNav always froze down upon
the first signal. Nevertheless, because a lot of problems with other
programs I removed XP and now use again my old DOS or Windows ACARS (Lowe)
program running on an old 486SX laptop forewarding the data by ethernet to
my NT 4.O system where AirNav 3.1 is running (the Laptop then runs with Win
3.11).

So it might be worth to try XP but there is no guarantee...

Best wishes from Stuttgart,

Peter

Hi Kevin,

I use among other programs, Sky-Spy made by Pervisell in the UK, this
program uses a 'Hamcomm' type demodulator.

The following is a quote from the Pervisell site regarding XP

"Please note that Windows XP, NT and 2000 do not have vxd support for
Demodulators. We recommend that you either stay with Windows 98 SE or use a
Program like Partition Magic from www.powerquest.com to run Win98 or WinXP
from the boot menu "

In my case, I dug up my old PC from the garage which still has Windows 98se
on it and
use that with both Sky-Spy and the Airnav ACARS decoder, however I would
have thought the Airnav decoder would run under XP as it is a soundcard
program, not a COM port program?

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to check this tonight.
