[ACARS] New member Hello, information please.

Hello everyone,

 Dave from Philadelphia Pa USA here.

I recently discovered the world of ACARS decoding and am enjoying it. I love a new challenge!

I went ahead and registered Airnav 1.1 and have about a 90% decode rate using my Dell 8200 P4, Pro2005 and an attic mounted multiband antenna. I'll get the Discone soon.

A few questions if I may, How are flights (airlines) assigned a frequency (Acars that is) ?

Living where I do there seems to no rhyme or reason to it. I have 3 or 4 very busy freq's and another 3 or so that give light traffic.

How often do I have to update my  tail # data? I seem to get quite a few decodes that do not give the Acft type or Airline? Despite the tail # being an identifiable carrier. oh, and where would one get these updates or find lists containing the reg #'s / Airline / equipment types?

And finally, I want to decode the messages into something that makes sense. what do suggest for software? A link to it possibly?

Thank you for any information you can give me. I hope to become a regular contributor after the holidays pass and I have time to figure out the program(s).
