Am using one as I write. Erm, just tune in (I have a keypad so I set USB on the mode switch and type in the freq). Depending on how hot or cold it is, I may need to turn the dial 1/8th of a rotation (one flat if you are a "mechanic") either way to bring the tuning within the 100 Hz needed. I tune to Iceland as it's the strongest signal. I've also used my Sony 2001D which tunes in 100Hz steps with good results. Other than that, can't think of anything special that I did. The HF225 seems a fine receiver and were Lowes able to repair it, then I would think you have a bargain. I bought mine 2nd hand some years ago and it does what I need very well. OK, its stability isn't very great (I can't decode selcals accuratley as it doesn't stay tuned within 1-2 Hz) but I can live without selcals (joke).
