[80m] AM Broadcast Interference and my ICOM 706MKIIG ...

Greetings,

Just finished putting up a new FAN dipole for 80m and 40m, SWR
is practically 1:1 on 3.580 Mhz, BUT ... I'm getting an S60 on
my signal strength meter on my ICOM 706MKIIG ... the signal is
almost like a local radio station is playing right on frequency
but distorted. What on earth is going on here ? Is the front end
of my ICOM actually that bad that it can't handle the local AM
stations ?

The interference is aweful throughout the entire 1:2 SWR *range*
of the dipole, and I'm lucky enough to here the odd STRONG rtty
station able to break through.

Frustrated !
