[80m] 4 square

Yes. But the limited SWR bandwidth is an indication that the system is
working. When I had my 40m 4sq installed with buried radials (8 for each
element) the SWR was flat across the 80 and 75m bands but it's performance
was not very good. With the elevated radials (4 for each element) it
narrowed the SWR bandwidth and now it works very well. I didn't try the 80m
with buried radials, just went direct to 4 elevated at each element and it
works very well. The array is tuned for 3540 KHz and does give good results
on 3800 but I am sure if I redid it for 3800 it would work better. I'm just
not into DXing by committee, although when I get desperate enough for a new
one I do go to 3800 <grin>.

I use a Comtek phasing box to feed the arrays. I have done a lot of
modeling (Eznec) with both the Comtek feed and a parasitic feed and
according to Eznec I cannot build an 80m array that will work on both 80 and
75. If it works on one band, the signals go straight up on the other band,
hence my belief that 80 meters and 75 meters are two seperate bands.

Oh, you cannot measure SWR when using a Comtek box. The resonant frequency
is determined by how much power is going into the 5th port. With the ground
mounted radials I never observed any power going into the 5th port and with
the elevated radials I get as much as 300 watts (wasted) when operating on
3800.
