Vic, in my opinion the best reason to put up a 4 square is because of the
receiving. We all love to do A/B tests on transmit to verify our front to
back and front to side; and typically you will see 20 to 25 front to back
and 15 or so front to side. The importance of this is that you have cut
down the noise in 3 directions by between 15 and 25 db. When I put up my 4
square I also had up a beverage to the south east for long path. I took it
down within a few months of the 4 square going up. The only time the
beverage will out perform the 4 square is when the primary noise is coming
from the same direction as the signal you are trying to copy.
