Henrik, I have not tried 3/8 wave-length verticals and am very anxious to
hear how you make out with this. Please keep good notes on your progress
update us periodically.
I have, however, played with the phasing a little on the standard 1/4 wave
length system. I have found that using phasing of -120 and -240 degrees
instead of -90 and -180 improves the front to back by as much as 5 db and
actually improves the gain slightly. At greater phasing than this you begin
to develop some pretty big sidelobes. I have also found that you can
accomplish the same thing by increasing the spacing between the elements.
If standard 1/4 wave spacing is about 65 feet, then increase it to about 70
or 71 feet. Incidentally models using ELNEC or AO confirms this.
