Neil,
My search for an ultra stable local oscillator went away with the
idea of stripping 10 mhz ( 10 to the minus 12 or so accuracy )
from the GPS receiver..
Plus it's free!!😁
The reason I used an Icom 706 was that when I disconnect B+ ( 12
VDC ) from the RF PA I came up with +7dbm of signal, just right
for insertion in to a balanced mixer.
I always gotta wait till it gets simple then I can do it..
Imagineering saves a lot of time and expense @ e-bay..
Let the way come to you, it's like praying.. ( no fooling ) See
it then plug and play it...

Hi John,Yes, the idea of opening up the freqs on my ft891 crossed my mind. I know it is not hard, but I am a little afraid to try it, especially with my deteriorating vision. I did open up my FT100 years ago, but no longer have that radio. I miss it.
If I dont find a 3.2 MHz crystal, I could use my U3S as a freq source by setting it to send out a continuous 3.2 signal. It has a good freq synthicizer.
I wish I had not given away my MF Solutions transverter when I left Vancouver WA. The ham that I gave it to has not used it to get on 630m and probably wont. What a waste. But then I never thought that I would be able to get back on 630m after choosing to move into our lovely 55+ community here in North Ogden.
I might still open up this radio, if I get enough courage, and the Lord gives me grace in this matter.

Subject: Re: [600MRG] a realization for my weak brain ...Maybe worth the effort to see what it takes to open that radio up to
transmit on 10.474....while the 3.2 LO will probably be a little more
stable, round numbers look better and sure make it easier when setting
up the dial when half asleep.. Been there before!

John..
