Last evening I attempted to make crossband QSOs with any of our local Ogden ARC club members prior
to our weekly 10 meter SSB net.
The plan was to have them listen for my cw on 475.0 kHz, and to answer me on 28386 kHz which is
our normal pre-net cw qso QRG. I was heard by at least two stations but they were unable to TX back to me. One was struggling with a new radio which complicated his effort.
At least two others tried to hear me but could not.
One of the problems might be that many ops have never tried to use the SPLIT function on their radios to do crossbanding. I guess it would be good to have them figure that out in advance. The other issue is the switching of antennas between the two bands, since
10m to 630m is quite a jump!
We will try it again after more planning. I am pretty sure that one of them will be up to speed on the next attempt.
I am putting a second wire of top loading on my 'inverted LV' soon to see how much it might improve my EIRP on 630m.
Stay tuned.....
