I have been slowly making improvements to the RX system. I now have the
proper filter/preamp. Since yesterday 3 December, the big K9AY loop can
be switched between east-northeast and west-southwest directions. I will
be listening mostly east-northeast (Europe) from before my sunset until
sunrise in Europe. Before my sunrise I will be listening west-southwest
(U.S., most of Canada, Australia. On LF I am monitoring WSPR2,
FTT4W-120/300/900/1800. On MF WSPR2, FST4W-120/300. I haven't decided
whether to set up the visual grabbers again, or not. Is it interesting
for people to see their WSPR/FST4W traces here?
The current setup using the GPS referenced RSPdx receiver seems as good
as my old Softrock receivers, but it is impossible to say for certain
without side by side comparison. Someday I will do that of course, but
not sure when. I have many projects competing for time and the GPS
reference clock I need to do that is busy elsewhere.
One problem is some nasty intermittent RFI, especially on LF. When it is
not there, I have good RX conditions. When it is there, quite poor
reception. I don't have any idea where this new RFI comes from. Anyone
hoping for me to hear him should just keep trying, you will eventually
hit the right time. There is no predictable pattern that I can recognize.
