A special event is scheduled on 630 meters Sunday, November 3rd 2024, 00:00 UTC, Saturday night Nov 2nd 8pm eastern time. The event marks the 118th anniversary of the adoption of both the SOS signal and the maritime calling frequency of 500 kHz, 600 meters in wavelength, medium wave.

Amateurs will operate “just down the band” from 600 meters throughout the evening, using CW from 472 to 475khz and the WSJTX mode FST4 (60 second pass) at 474.2khz USB.
This event provides an opportunity for clubs or individuals to put a vintage MW transmitter back on the air, or perhaps try one of a number of solid modern approaches. However, those interested in doing so should be sure to register with the Utilities Technology Council prior to October 3rd 2024 (30-day waiting period).
