The George Washington Loran site is 12 miles south of my QTH. I can see the 4 towers from my recliner in the living room. When they run the fog strobes up to high, it lights up the whole house.
Back when the old Loran was running, I had 100 kHz pulses on every wire here. 2200m RX systems had to have very high dynamic range and lots of filtering. I was really really happy when they shut it all down.
But... they have been running eloran tests from that site for several years now. It hasn't been on all the time, but I haven't been looking for it, so don't know what they are currently doing. No matter what the Brits are up to, the Homeland idiots are bound and determined to get this fool thing up and running. I'm sure they are doing it just to annoy me!

I bet we will see eloran testing in the US pretty soon. GPS signals are weak and vulnerable. Alternative satellite systems are in the works as are land based systems using existing signals, but I think eloran may be near the top of the list.

Ofcom is proposing to introduce a new ‘Spectrum Access eLoran licence’ to authorize use of the 90-110 kHz spectrum band for eLoran systems.
