I should do a lengthy WEB review on this just for fun, but other things to do right now (taxes). You bring up some questions.
On the VHF or so you have a noise diode source that seems standard. CSVHF and others have for years had measuring events at conventions. There are old graphs with noise vs freq that we all refer to.
But as mentioned, we are looking at digital signals mostly at 630M or so. The RX response is not to a nice fuzzy noise, but to a spiky, fuzzy source and I'm sure that a sampling AD is going to react to that different than to a nice noise diode. And the spiky signal at my relatively country location in KS is going to be a bit different than Ed's or the poor guy near a solar array.
How do we consider something as relevant?
